WHOLE HOUSES

Smith House

In a village that lies just outside the North Pennines, the proposed home echoes nearby rural farmstead with its linked forms, with a contemporary use of materials.

A 2-storey, pitched-roofed volume runs parallel to the adjacent lane and a single-storey volume sits to the front at right angles, with a mono-pitched roof creating an ‘L-shaped’ plan. The entrance occurs between the two volumes as a glazed link.

A standalone outbuilding sits to the west following the site boundary – this is fronted by a timber loggia that unites the three volumes and allows travel from garage to front door [without getting wet].

Walled Garden House

Set outside the small village of Fourstones, Northumberland, the house replaces an existing farmhouse and three brick barns are retained, with one converted to a leisure pavilion for the house and two others converted into a smaller dwellings.

The design takes its cue from the farmyard buildings and other rural precedents in the local area. We utilise natural materials that echo the local vernacular and a high degree of sustainable principles in both design and energy use.

Beck House

A replacement dwelling on a beautiful rural site in Northumberland, with a discrete single-storey home arranged around a courtyard with a beck adjacent to it.

Located just outside of the Northumberland National Park and adjacent to a Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI), the residential curtilage sits off the road, bounded by a brook with views onto open fields to the west, while to the rear it faces a lake and woodland that extends across the valley.
